A convex edge is the sharpest edge a scissor can have, and the easiest to ruin. We hand-hone convex Japanese scissors on water stones, keeping the original curve, then polish to a mirror finish.

Assess the edge
We measure the existing convex curve and check the hollow-grind before anything touches it.

Hand-hone on stones
Progressive water stones, from 1000 to 8000 grit, by hand. No grinding wheels.

Mirror polish
Final strop and polish to the mirror edge convex scissors are known for.

Set the ride line
Blades checked for ride and set for a smooth, silent close.

Slide-cut test
Tested on wet hair for slide-cutting and point-cutting before oiling.

Can you fix a convex edge someone has ground flat?
Often, yes. We'll assess it first and quote before starting, as it takes more steel and time.

All the Japanese and premium brands, plus quality Korean, German and own-label convex scissors.
Is it worth posting expensive scissors?
Your pack includes a padded scissor sleeve and the return is tracked and signed for. Our insurance covers tools while they are with us.
