Care guide

Keep your edge longer.

Good care between sharpens doubles the life of an edge. Here's how to look after blades and scissors, a blade size chart, and a checker that tells you when you're due.

Oil every dog or every client

Three drops on the blade, run it for a few seconds, wipe. Dry blades heat up and wear twice as fast.

Clean the hair out

Brush between the teeth and use blade wash after dense or dirty coats. Packed hair spreads the comb and dulls the cutter.

Wipe, close, store

Wipe scissors dry, close them and store them in a case. Never leave them open on the table or let them knock together in a pouch.

Don't cut what's not hair

Tape, paper, mats with grit in and nails all chip edges. Keep a cheap pair for everything else.

Dropped it? Send it

A dropped scissor can knock the tips out of line. It may still feel fine, but it'll start chewing within days.

Sharpen before it pulls

Sharpening a lightly worn edge takes less steel off than rescuing a wrecked one. The edge lasts more sharpens.
